I have made a few different ones, using the very soft bamboo-wool-blend Sirdar Smiley Stripes, a multicolored yarn which is why I kept the cushion in simple garter stitch. One model is knitted diagonally with an eyelet frame to break the diagonal lines, the other version is knitted in the round, or rather in the square. The first ones i have made have two knitted sides but more recently I have started to combine one knitted side with a plain fabric on the back.

For other cushions I have used mercerized cotton which gives clear lines in contrast to the background. I think it works very well for lace or drop stitch patterns as it enhances the contrasting colours.
