Door 18 – favourite patterns

I have just been browsing my ravelry-projects, wondering when I will ever have the time to add my latest projects and I have realised that I have used some patterns over and over again, just because they are really great and versatile.

There is, of course, the Little Rascals by Julia Stanfield.

I am not even sure if the gallery shows all the models I have ever knitted from that pattern, but you can see it is very versatile and all children in my family own at least one of them.

Another favourite for a quick and easy gift for a new baby girl would be the Versa by Shannon Passmore.

I almost always use this pattern when I have to knit something for a baby girl. It offers many choices to adapt the shape but I almost always knit a tunic as I feel it is the version that will fit the longest, first as a dress, later a top.

And last but not least, there is the Rainbow Dress by Georgie Hallam. I haven’t actually knit it this year but I think it is a great pattern and I am very fond of it. Maybe because it was the first time ever that I came across anything a seamless top-down pattern.

Whilst looking at my past projects I have also rediscovered a few patterns that would be worth to be knit again, but enough for today 🙂

Door 16 – being brave

I’ve made another hat. So I guess, we can call that hat trauma overcome.

My daughter has a really gorgeous hat knitted by one of my husbands aunts. It is big enough but it keeps sliding up, so her ears are not fully covered which she hates.

She has an other, shop bought, one which her mother accidentally shrank in the washing machine.

So she urgently needed another one and I decided to make her one. I have used this pattern but I haven’t yet created a ravelry project.

IMG_1438I have decided not to use the requested pink because the other hat is pink anyway and I know that she likes many colours. She has a red winter jacket so I thought red, orange, yellow would match best, with a little bit of green because it suits her. I added braids to the ear flaps so she can pretend to have long hair.

And luckily she is very happy with her new hat… and green hair 🙂

Door 11 – flower power

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I have been busy making headbands – I think they are great little gifts.

So, apart from the twisted ones, I made some very cute moss stitch ones with a big flower on the side in contrasting colours.

IMG_1399 IMG_1402I love them both so much, they are available in the shop so hurry up to get them otherwise I might change my mind and keep them for myself 🙂

But for now I will have to make some more biscuits….

Door 10 – something special

The postman just delivered something that I have been waiting for since days, so it is almost like Christmas already 🙂

Last week I had ordered a couple of balls of a Merino/Silk DK of Dye For Yarn . Or was it Dye For Wool? It doesn’t really matter as both two the same two German dyers who produce really nice stuff. They have different blends of the finest fibres, lots of lace and fingering weight, occasionally heavier ones too. I have so far tried different Merino/Silk blends and they are just incredibly soft and nice to wear on the skin.

They only dye small batches in the same dye, so you are really getting something very special for very special occasions. And the colours are all just gorgeous, there are very subtle variations which makes the knitted item just look so much more vivid. I always struggle to choose and usually end up buying too much 🙂

And knitting with it is just a pleasure, I can’t wait….

And it is just a bonus that this special yarn comes from a small company rather than a big one, so it is even better.

What is your favourite yarn for the very special knits?
